PROVIDENCE, RI – Providence resident Daniel E. Chaika has announced his intention to run for the recently vacated Ward 3 seat for the Providence City Council.
A well-regarded attorney and Providence Ward 3 resident for most of his life, Chaika recently resigned from his role as Vice Chair of the City’s Ethics Commission in order to run for the City Council seat.
In his role with the Ethics Commission, Chaika was instrumental in the Commission’s inaugural efforts, including the creation of an educational framework and materials, and the recently adopted regulations that fulfill the board’s investigatory mandate. Together these efforts comprise the City’s first significant ethics framework for how City business is conducted.
“I’m very proud of the work of the Ethics Commission,” Chaika said. “This non-partisan group worked together efficiently and productively, and I think that – given recent events and our current political climate – the timing could not be any better. My hope now is that I have an opportunity to work as a member of the City Council to continue to promote ethical practices across City business.”
Chaika will formally file his candidacy with the Board of Canvassers on June 5.
“My vision is to see all 15 of the City’s wards working together productively, along with Mayor Elorza, with the goal of restoring faith in our municipal government. This is the time we need to create a level playing field for all, and we need to address the City’s quality of life, taxes, school funding, infrastructure and community program issues that are so important to all of us.”
